now, people are camped out at the sacred heart community service in san jose. janine de la vega joins us with why people are out there. >> reporter: it is raining and cold and wet but look at this, you see all these umbrellas, people have set up tents, tarps, they're sleeping right now. we've seen baby strollers out here. they're desperate for help and they say it's worth it for them to wait in the line because they need help for the holidays. some people have been here since 6:00 p.m. last night. let's go to videos of volunteers unloading crates of donating food here in preparation for this holiday give away. workers are expecting more than 4000 people to show up and register to receive food boxes that included turkey for thanksgiving and thousands of parents are signing up to receive the food boxes for christmas and toys for their children. the nonprofit says that 12% of kids in santa clara county live in poverty. i'm joined now by crystal cordova. you said this is your very first time signing up for this holiday give away. why do you have the need. >> well, i moved here from arkans

. >>> we begin with the story of a female body found at a home in san jose. it's a developing story with police still at the scene after getting a 911 call. ktvu's janine de la vega is at the home in south san jose to explain why police suspect this was a homicide. janine? >> reporter: well, tori, police tell us that the woman's body was found face down and she was lying on the floor. the coroner's on the scene right now. at this point, officer are the waiting to get a warrant to search inside this home. authorities received a 911 hangup call and when officers arrived, they heard dogs barking. they called animal control to help. when police finally entered the home, that's when they found the woman's body. while a weapon has not been found, police have reason to believe that she was killed. detectives have been going door to door to see if anyone heard anything. it's unknown who made the 911 call but officers say it did come from the home where the body was found. >> we attempted to call back to confirm there was a prob or determine if there was a problem occur -- problem or determi

was stabbed to death with a samurai sword in san jose has finally been identified. the justice department says the victim is 70-year-old joan ann hughes of new york. she was well known in the west san carlos street neighborhood of san jose. a memorial was set up there in her honor after she was murdered back in august. sketches of her you just saw were released, but it took three months before authorities got a positive i.d. hughes moved to california years ago but became estranged from her family on the east coast. >>> an update now to a story we first brought you last night at 11:00. a man is in jail tonight after a dui stop turned explosive in san jose. this is amateur video of the scene next to that new casino matrix. police say they pulled over 35-year-old james mcgill on north 1st street near 101. while searching his car they found a live pipe bomb. officers then called in the bomb squad, who safely destroyed it. >>> six members of the secretive counterterrorism unit known as s.e.a.l. team 6 are in trouble for helping a redwood city-based video game company. electronic arts paid the s.e.

continuing southward just south of san jose along the 101 near morgan hill and gilroy. looks like we're not done just yet. we may catch a dry slot. you can see this one wave of moisture and this low come through here. behind that a little break but there's more right here that's likely to rotate down so we are going to keep things unsettled but these temperatures heading out it's chilly. 37 degrees in santa rosa. 42 san rafael. 41 in the napa valley. and, of course, that's why we're seeing a chance of snow over the tops of the mountains. >> thank you. this is one of the first wet commutes we have had really wet commutes in a while. so we had an earlier traffic alert that's now canceled. that was out in milpitas near the 880/237 interchange. we're also getting reports of some flooding in lanes, some hydroplaning so be extra careful. a lot of these different accidents have been cleared and obviously, it's friday, often we see lighter traffic on a friday. not too many cars on the golden gate bridge. it appears to be moving okay right now across the span. one accident we are continuing t
